Amsterdam, the Capital of the Netherlands

Gables, Heerengracht

Typical gables of 17th and 18th century merchant's houses, along the stately Heerengracht (“Gentlemen's Canal”), in Amsterdam. There are beams with hooks at the top, designed to hoist furniture through the upper windows, as the steps inside the house tend to be very narrow.
